Oklahoma City CBS Workshop

On May 10, we joined students, community members and government officials at the Oklahoma City Zoo for our 4th Collaboration-Based Siting workshop.

Four members of Mothers for Nuclear - Dani Zigon, Heather Hoff, Jean Nelson, and Fereshteh Bunk

Driving around Oklahoma City to collect our team traveling from all over the country, some of us were surprised to see oil rigs dotting the city and sky scrapers owned by fossil fuel companies. Although 50% of their energy production comes from Natural gas, 40% now comes from wind! In a state like Oklahoma, we’re happy to have the support of Doug Sandridge, founder of Oil & Gas Executives for Nuclear. Doug and his own mother (for nuclear), Kay, joined us.

Setting up our table, alongside Samantha from Native Nuclear. We were excited to be in Jean’s home state of Oklahoma, where she is chapter lead of MfN.

As we set up, a Girl Scout Troop was just on their way out after hosting a slumber party in the same room. Staff were graciously cleaning up after an armadillo that had been visiting the girls.

Some attendees travelled from nearby states in order to join us.

We Mothers for Nuclear love our atom decals!

We visited the state capitol to express our support for nuclear to the state’s elected officials.. Unfortunately, after a busy day of workshopping and a quick visit to the zoo, we missed them. ;-)
