Cal Poly NiCE Club

We did tabling on Dexter Lawn at Cal Poly for two days leading up to the kickoff event for a Cal Poly NiCE Club (Nuclear is Clean Energy!). Lots of students wanted to learn more.

Our table had stickers, gummi bears with an energy comparison chart, and radioactive uranium glass that glows under UV light.

Gummi bears love nuclear? ;-)

Dr. Klay engaging with students

Students LOVED the gummi bears! So many signed up to attend the kickoff meeting to learn more about nuclear energy and start a club.

Ask them to ask you

One of the students showed us how there was an anti-nuclear painted utility box just around the corner. We reached out to the artist…. Our Diablo Canyon Utility Box truly shows hope for the future!

The NiCE Club kickoff meeting was a HUGE success with over 50 students attending!

Faculty supporters of the club include Dr. Jennifer Klay (Advisor, MfN Boardmember, Nuclear & Particle Physics, Chair of Physics Dept), Rudy Schalk (Geodetic Science & Surveying, Geology), and Dr. Vidya Schalk (Advisor, Sustainability Fellow, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Materials Science).

We had student leaders from the NiCE Club at UC Berkeley join us, plus Paris (Stand Up for Nuclear), Eric (Generation Atomic), and Ryan to talk about advocacy.
